As the name suggests, this program is all about adding a little extra to the day for students who may relish additional tuition after school, might like to get their homework or study done before they go home or back to the boarding house. The Extended Day Program is based on a ‘drop in’ casual basis to meet the needs of our very busy and engaged students. Based in The Hub, we provide academic tutors after school, rooms for individual study or spaces for private tutors for any day or boarding student interested in doing a little bit more.
Additional School Tutoring in the Afternoon
From 3:30pm to 5:00pm from Monday to Thursday every week during term, we provide an academic tutor who works in The Hub offering assistance across different subject areas on a ‘drop-in’ basis. Of course both day students and boarding students are very welcome to drop in and seek this assistance which is predominantly used by Year 5 – 8 students.
Middle School Homework or ‘Prep’
TAS Middle School boarders all must go to ‘prep’ every evening from Monday to Thursday in the classrooms from 6.00pm – 7.00pm. It is an important part of our regular Middle School boarding program to keep students on track with their academic demands. On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, Middle School boarding staff and extra teaching staff attend the evening session in the Hub and boarders are welcome to stay for an extra hour from 7pm – 8pm for extended support if required.
Evening Academic Sessions
We provide a tutor in The Hub on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.00pm to 8.00pm where Middle School boarders and Years 11 and 12 day or boarding students can have access to additional academic support.
On Wednesday evenings from 5.00pm – 9.00pm we have supervised study for Years 11 and 12 only to give them focus on the more academic demands as they prepare for the final HSC.
Year 9 and 10 students can apply themselves to be part of this additional academic support or they can be referred by their teachers as required.
Supervised individual study
This is also an option for students who want to get away from the distractions of home or the boarding house. They are welcome to simply use space in The Hub to work on homework, revision or assessment work and can complete it in a quiet, pleasant space. This is open for all.
Private Tutoring
It is also possible that parents want to arrange for private tutoring for their child in a particular subject. Of course this is possible and The Hub has quiet break-out rooms that can be booked for this purpose.
Mr Arndt, who runs The Hub oversees this program and parents who are seeking advice and guidance can contact him directly regarding private tuition requests on [email protected].
