Federal and State Government Allowances

Parents should make their own enquiry to the relevant bodies in order to determine their eligibility for these allowances.

Federal Government – Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme

The Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme helps families who, due to geographic isolation, do not have reasonable daily access to a government school. Assistance is largely free of income and asset tests, recognising the extra costs faced by isolated families in accessing education and may include a boarding or distance education allowance. Further information, eligibility and application details are available on the Australian Government’s Services Australia website here

State Government – Living Away from Home Allowance

The NSW State Government has a Living Away from Home Allowance that provides assistance to eligible NSW families whose children have to board away from home to access secondary education. Further information, eligibility and application details are available on the NSW State Government Services NSW website.

School Drive Subsidy

Some day students and boarders may be eligible to claim School Drive Subsidies where there is no public transport available. Further information, eligibility and application details are available on the Transport NSW website here.
