TAS Principal, Mr Ray Pearson

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Ray Pearson as the next Principal of The Armidale School (TAS), to commence just prior to the start of Term 4, 2024.

It was exceptionally exciting to have an internal candidate as the stand-out applicant for the role, who met all of the outlined criteria and brought so much to the position. Mr Ray Pearson B.Ed., M.Ed. (Leadership and Management) is now the sixteenth Principal of TAS, with his tenure beginning with immediate effect.

Sebastian Hempel, Chair of the Board said: “Ray has demonstrated throughout his career and his time at TAS as Deputy Principal, sound leadership skills, genuine care for all his students, and a collaborative approach to working with teachers, staff, parents, and the wider community. Through the extensive interview process, it was evident that he understands our unique culture, our rich history, and our exceptional close-knit School community. We are confident that his leadership will contribute significantly to the continued growth and development of our Anglican school - in all areas.”

Ray takes on the role of Principal, following the end of Dr Rachel Horton’s tenure. The Board is confident that Ray’s deep understanding of the TAS values will maintain the momentum built under Rachel’s leadership, ensuring stability and continuity for our community. Ray will continue to build on and enrich his already strong relationships with our high-quality executive, teaching and operational teams, as we look forward to renewing our strategic plan.

Ray said of his appointment: “I am incredibly honoured and proud to be appointed as Principal of The Armidale School. We have a fantastic offering that provides broad opportunities for our students across the co-curricular space and within academics. I see so many opportunities to enhance the offering at TAS and I am excited about the timing of creating a new strategic plan to take us through the next five years and beyond. I want TAS to be the pre-eminent regional boarding school and I know we have the people and passion to achieve this.”

There will be opportunities in the future to meet with Ray with events around Armidale and further afield. More information to follow.
