World Class Facilities; Tour our School

Set on a spacious and picturesque 25 hectare campus surrounded by lush green space, the TAS campus features a mix of historic and modern buildings that reflect elements of the iconic original building designed by noted colonial architect Sir John Sulman in 1892. Academic buildings are nestled in the heart of the school as are the boarding houses that accommodate half our middle and senior school students. Come and tour our school.

Our range of academic spaces

In the heart of our impressive campus of historic and modern buildings nestled amongst beautiful gardens, lies our students’ academic world. Our six recently renovated Science laboratories and external lift, connect to senior academic spaces. Many of our traditional classrooms are supplemented by interconnected doors to allow for smaller lectures and group presentations. For the distinctive needs of the creative arts and music, PE, agriculture, robotics, metals and engineering, we have specialised facilities. Have a look below….

Our Creative Arts Centre

Our creative arts precinct features the Michael Hoskins Creative Arts Centre which incorporates an impressive 240-seat performance theatre, specialist art and drama rooms and a fully equipped film and audio recording studio. Our three annual school performances are staged here, as are many local and travelling theatre, opera and ballet performances that come to Armidale.

The adjacent Music Centre includes an audio recording studio and facilities for group and individual tuition.

Our Sporting Facilities

TAS is very proud of its considerable sporting facilities. At the centre of the main campus is the Sports Centre, comprising a heated indoor 25 metre swimming pool, gymnasium with a basketball court and indoor climbing wall, and a large, fully equipped weights room. Outdoor facilities on the main campus include five sporting ovals, seven tennis courts and basketball/netball courts and a school dam which is used for kayaking. Two blocks away is our second campus, Doody Park, home to the School’s Trade Training Centre, which has two additional ovals (under lights) and an adjoining small bore rifle range.

Our Trade Training Centre - where bright sparks fly!

From engineering to software technology, automotives to textiles, metal fabrication to beekeeping and building - the TAS Trade Training Centre is where the sparks of learning can literally fly. Opened in 2010, the facility is located at Doody Park, two blocks east of the main TAS campus.

A range of Stage 5 and Stage 6 subjects (including Vocational Education Training) are taught at the Centre, which is a multi-purpose facility. Large classrooms are complemented by a 600sq metre workshop space which incorporates three automotive bays and welding and metal machining areas.

The Agriculture Precinct

As a premier school in the New England region, with so many of our parents and past students committed to agricultural development, the TAS Agriculture Precinct is consistent with our desire to be the agriculture school of choice for families. A new Agriculture precinct facility will be opened for the start of year 2023.

The Boarding Houses

The recent growth in the student population of TAS has resulted in the need for new boarding houses, the most recent opened in 2018 and we are under pressure in boarding the next one will be under construction shortly.

The TAS boarding model is based on Middle School boys and girls boarding houses and then senior boarding houses for Years 9 to 12.

The Dining Hall

The magnificent Dining Hall with its vaulted timber ceiling is part of the original school building designed by Sir John Sulman and built in 1893, being extended to its current (and originally intended) size in 1926.

Of course this is where boarders from all Houses come for breakfast and dinner, and are joined at lunch by any day student from Year 3 and above who would like to eat from the buffet of hot and cold foods. Staff and students all meet in this busy space allowing for a greater community spirit by bringing people together over nutritious and delicious meals.
