Junior School and the Primary Years Programme

Our Junior School is where the magic of a TAS education truly begins. It is filled with learning, creativity and stimulation wrapped in care and kindness. We simply ask more and expect more of our students. We want them to perform in the classroom, in sport and on stage. We want them to explore their growing independence with smart decision making and confidence. Come and have a look at TAS Junior School - you can see and feel the difference that a TAS education can give your child.

The International Baccalaureate, Primary Years Programme (IB PYP)

TAS is the only International Baccalaureate World School in the region that offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) to students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 5. The IB PYP is a student-centred approach to education that changes the way subjects are taught by putting students right at the heart of their learning. The PYP works alongside the NSW curriculum and is unique in offering the additional benefits of teaching students to become global, creative, transdisciplinary learners. They are guided to look beyond the narrow confines of single subject focused learning to understand better the world they live in and their place within it.

Who are the Junior School’s Specialist Teachers?

Specialist teachers in Music, Languages (French and Japanese), Drama and PE complement our exceptional classroom teachers who share their energies and interests both inside and outside the classroom. We ask all our students to throw themselves into everything on offer with energy and enthusiasm and our committed teachers will lead and guide them through these early years of their education.

Creativity really matters

Now more than ever, our ability to problem solve, perform and create has never been so important and for TAS Junior School students there are many options to choose from. Music and Drama are taught by specialist teachers with all Year 3 students involved in the Strings Program and Year 5 will be playing in the newly created Brass Program. Involvement in choirs, bands and performing on stage in concerts becomes part of our students lives.

Beyond music, one of the annual drawcards is the Junior School Musical which involves every student from Year 2 to 5. Auditions, rehearsals, prop making and costume creation are all part of the experience with the end of year performances staged in our own performing arts centre, the Hoskins Centre.
